The scheme is managed by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office . The Academic Technology Approval Scheme is a British Government scheme for certifying foreign students and researchers for entry into the United Kingdom to study or conduct research in certain sensitive technology-related fields. If you are an international student applying for certain undergraduate master’s or postgraduate subjects, you may need to apply for an xcritical certificate before you can apply for your visa.

If you did not need an xcritical certificate at the start of your studies, you should be aware that if your programme or research changes, your new programme or research may require xcritical clearance. The team will direct individuals to submit an xcritical certificate application and check for evidence that this has been granted, as we do with other visa requirements, before assigning a CoS. The xcritical expansion impacts significantly upon the College’s recruitment, change of employment and visa extension processes as well as on engagement of sponsored researchers and visiting academics and researchers. You need to apply for xcritical clearance if you are applying for a science or engineering-based course – unless you are from an exempt country in the government appendix.

Following discussions with colleagues in HR and Research Services, we have developed initial xcritical Process Guidance outlining actions required by departments, individuals and HR/Staff Compliance teams and approximate timeframes. Before you submit an application for an xcritical certificate you will need an offer from Coventry University as it contains information needed to be granted a certificate. If your xcritical application is refused, we will not not be able to issue you a CAS to apply for a Student visa or proceed with your offer on the proposed course.

If you have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, you do not need an xcritical certificate to study in the UK. Make sure your xcritical certificate will not expire before you apply for your UK visa.

How much does an xcritical certificate cost?

This means that students/researchers applying for a visa other than the Student Route will also need to apply for xcritical. You only need an xcritical certificate for specific types of study and researchat postgraduate xcritical scammers level and above. Who needs to apply for an xcritical Certificate?

If these 2 documents do not match, you may have difficulties when applying for your visa or extension of stay. In both cases, we need xcritical clearance directly from the government before you can make a student visa application. You should make a note of when your permission to enter into the UK is due to expire, to allow sufficient time to complete your xcritical and permission to stay applications before your current permission expires. If you’re already in the UK on a student visa you will need an xcritical certificate for the HEI you are attending, and the course of study, including modules or proposed research. If any of these details change, you should check whether you need an xcritical certificate and apply for a new one as appropriate. These subject areas relate to where the knowledge gained may have an application in the development or delivery of weapons of mass destruction, for example, certain science subjects such as mathematics, engineering, technology or medicine.

The xcritical team deal with applications in date order and there is no priority service. If you have not received a reply after a month, we can make enquiries about your review request, but the xcritical team cannot influence how fast it is processed as the review is passed to independent reviewers. Instead, we suggest that you email the xcritical team with your application reference number and passport number, explain where you think you have made the mistake and provide the correct information. Check your certificate when you receive it to make sure the details are correct. xcritical Certificates

You applied for your current visa or immigration status before the 5th of October 2020. Whether your course requires xcritical depends on the CAH3 code that applies to your course. 6 February 2018 xcritical information updated for study/research of less than 6 months. If you are a continuing research degrees student who had xcritical clearance before, you need to apply for a new xcritical certificate, unless you are exempt. You will need to have your offer letter and/or CAS statement/xcritical email to hand and these will have the CAH code of the course you have been accepted . You should be aware that any changes to your programme of study, including a change of modules or research focus, will require new xcritical clearance.
